What’s a good project for learning to knit in rounds?

Author: Preferably something quick and easy. I just started knitting and really want to make socks but first I have to learn how to knit in rounds. Any suggestions for an easy project? Thank you!
try legwarmers. You’ll just knit around and around on circular needles. No increasing or decreasing like in hats.

the easiest way to learn to knit in the round would be to make a hat on double pointed needles.

I think socks are a good start. You can start with a single stocking, perhaps a christmas stocking. You can learn on larger needles, using a worsted weight yarn, and any mistakes you make can be embroidered over.

Socks aren’t as hard as you’d think, but if you want to try knitting in the round first, I would either do a hat or a set of wristers. Knitty has two great version of simple wristwarmers that are just PERFECT for this time of year (and a quick knit!).

There are several methods to knitting in the round (DPNs, Magic Loop, two circulars). You might find one you particularly like. One fun project is the Booga Bag (you can knit in the round AND felt the wool):

By far, the easiest project to make on a round loom is a hat. It was my first loomed project and it took me under two hours to complete an adult sized hat that looked really great!

That website also has a lot of free patterns that are very well explained.
Also, there are several Yahoo! groups that are about knitting in the round.
