I want to learn how to knit?

Okay, I’m trying to learn how to knit. I’d like to know what web sites that will show video and give intrusions( for free). Also, I’d like to know what size needle and size yawn is best for a beginner and any other tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
a large nesdles and thick yarn will be easiest to learn on, its much easier to see the stitches taking shape. I don’t know any websites, but there are books you can pick up for cheap at most craft stores, and if you get a beginners all in one kit (needles, yarn, pattern etc) they often come with a dvd. Most of your questions can be answered on these websites. I would suggest larger yawn and starting for a scarf for your first project.

I’m in the same boat as you, and I consider myself a visual learner. I tried the free websites and nothing helped. I think i’ve decided to break down and find some knitting classes at Michaels. I think they are between $15-$25 and some of them include materials. I plan on going to my closest one tomorrow and seeing what they have available. Plus, it would be a way to meet other people and get other ideas. I found the pictures on the internet were sometimes unclear on where to put the needles, especially when just starting out. I found the easiest way to learn is to have someone show you, do you have a yarn shop in your area? they always run classes, If you have an AC Moore in your area they have the free classes. As a beginner always start out with fairly big needles and bulky yarn that way you can see your progress faster. Other than that you can go the book route. My best friend in grade school taught me.

I also think it is easiest and more interesting to learn it from a person rather than a website. Most store that sell yarn offer classes and/or knitting groups. The latter are often free, but you need to know the basics. Once you do, you can just hang out with other people that knit and learn new techniques and get ideas. If you have a Fabric Place store in your area, contact them and find out what is going on. Or go to their website:

Some cities have also knitter’s clubs and things like that. Find out if yours has one. They might offer courses as well.
