I would like to learn to crochet…?
Hi, i would love to learn how to crochet.. Is there any starter kits out there? Or any tips for a beginner like what to start with as far as materials?
It might be a good idea to sign up for a few lessons so you can find out just what you need to learn. I was taught by my aunt, and I’m grateful that she taught me the basics before turning me loose with the hook and a book.
An excellent book or DVD is I Can’t Believe I’m Crocheting! by Melissa Leapman: http://www.amazon.com/I-Cant-Believe-Im-Crocheting/dp/B000GD85IU .
And Lion Brand has excellent written and illustrated instructions here: http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com/ .
YouTube videos can be iffy, but BethinTX does a pretty good job: http://www.youtube.com/user/Bethintx1#play/all/7AC5730A7D576011-all/0/hVBnFHGbeK4

Ok so there is this awesome book called "Stich’n bitch crochet: The happy hooker" By Debbie Stoller. Its great it taught me all the basics and has really good drawings and such. I would suggest going to a craft store and getting a pack of different’ sized hooks they are relatively cheap and youll need different ones. Then just get some cheap yarn and start learning the stiches!! If you need more help just let me know.

You can find all kinds of books and sites online to teach you how to crochet, but in all honesty, I feel you really need a live person to show you what to do, and to watch that you are doing it correctly. Once you have the basics, the books will make more sense. Getting a good basic start is so valuable for anything you will do later.
Your local yarn store (lys) is an excellent place to ask about this. They often have beginner classes by qualified teachers. Your grandmother or neighbour may be excellent at crochet but don’t know how to teach, and may get impatient with you. A qualified teacher is the best one to teach you.
Check your local library, community centre, church groups for classes. These are quite often available in early fall, but sometimes there are summer sessions as well. Just ask everyone… you’ll find a class.
