What’s a good project for learning to knit in rounds?

Preferably something quick and easy. I just started knitting and really want to make socks but first I have to learn how to knit in rounds. Any suggestions for an easy project? Thank you!

try legwarmers. You’ll just knit around and around on circular needles. No increasing or decreasing like in hats.
Try the pattern in "Last Minute Knitted Gifts"
or in "Stitch n B**** Nation"

here are a bunch of free legwarmer patterns:

How long after learning to knit did you first knit a nice scarf?

I’d like to learn to knit, but only so I can make my own scarves. How long would it take to learn how to knit, then make a nice (that is, no misplaced stitches) scarf? Thanks!

Well it depends on how much you practice. I’d say the average person needs about 8-10 hours of knitting before they get the "hang" of it. But, I have a small disappointment for you – I’ve been knitting for 30 years and I still make mistakes. The trick isn’t in not making the mistake but in learning how to fix the mistake. There are some good books out there that can help you fix mistakes (Sometimes without ripping out rows of work).

Practice practice practice and don’t be too hard on yourself. You’d be surprised to learn that others view your work differently than you do. Good luck!

i want to learn to knit. where and how?

i want to learn to knit fairly quickly. is there a web site or something i could go to to learn? my town is really really small and i don’t think we have a place to go to learn like that. i would like a good website that might also show me. please

ok go to a craft store and buy the klutz kit for learning to knit. it is what I bought and I learned quickly and it comes with everything you need. Also, if you want, email me and I can give you instructions!! Good luck!!

Would like to learn how to knit..?

I’m thinking about knitting something as a gift for a friend’s birthday in one month. I have no clue how to knit and was wondering if it’s difficult to learn? What is the best method of learning to knit? Any tips/recommendations will be appreciated as I have no idea what I’m doing…

knitting is so very simple to do, and the most difficult to learn (for some people). And nothing is hard, even brain surgery, when you know how.

I do strongly recommend that you take a beginner class at your local yarn store (lys). You will learn all the basics and will then be able to follow patterns.

I should tell you it is going to take a lot longer than a month to knit anything for your friend. There is a lot to learn before you get good enough to give anything away. But get started right now!! It’s a lot of fun, and so very practical.

What you need to start knitting?

Hai, I want to learn knitting and I have no clue how to start. If i want to start with knitting a scaft, what type of needle i should get? Any other knitting kits that i should have?

thank you!

Go to www.lionbrand.com. They have a whole section that tell you how to knit…and it’s free. The instructions are great. They also have some beginner free patterns too. I would try a scarf first, with a basic knit stitch….it’s so easy. I love knitting…I started a few years ago. The choices of affordable and fun yarns can be overwhelming. When you find a yarn you like, check the label. It will show you what size needles to use with that particular thickness of yarn. I usually use a size 10 or 11 when I want a fairly loose knit…something that will drape as a scarf nicely. But check the label. The larger the needle size, the faster the proejct will go. Anyone in the craft store will be able to help you get started too. All you will really need to get going is needles and a ball of yarn. Good luck!!!!
